About 2M Builders

We understand our clients’ needs - your needs - because we’re there too. We know how busy life is and how disruptive building projects can be to your daily rhythms. We understand the challenges of balancing competing priorities and values, whether they are financial, logistical, or environmental. We know how time-consuming it can be to manage a building project on top of everything else. And how important it is for the dream of that project to become a reality at journey’s end.

Our objective is to take all of these potential challenges and deliver the opposite. We are communicative and timely, keeping you up to date and across the progress of your project and any issues that pop up along the way. We work with you to make sure you understand the possibilities and constraints influencing your project. We take your time, money, and goals seriously.

When you work with 2M Builders, you become a part of our quest. With each project we take on, we’re applying our values and helping our clients do the same. We’re making more liveable homes and more enjoyable lives with every project we do. We look forward to working with you.

Our Values

  • Communication

We are open and honest with our clients. We listen to your needs and reflect them in our work. We listen and communicate with empathy and understanding, working through challenges together.

  • Transparency

We’re clear about what we can and can’t do. We have structured conversations about pricing and are open about changes that might need to be made and why.

  • Quality and value-add

We focus on craftsmanship and custom solutions. We leave every home better than we found it, delivering on project goals in the best possible way. We achieve a balance between attention to detail and getting the job done.

  • Commitment

We see our projects through. Over the life of each project, we remain as dedicated and enthusiastic as on the day we started.

  • Organisation and structure

We are excellent project managers, staging work to meet milestones to the very best of our ability. We are clear about changes to the project plan and make those changes in consultation with our clients and other stakeholders.

  • Relationships

We approach our clients with appreciation and respect. We work with local suppliers and businesses and collaborate with other local builders on larger projects.

  • Environmental and social focus

We strive to minimise waste and environmental impacts. We look for ways to cut down on excess materials and reduce waste to landfill. We aim for our projects to have a positive impact on people and communities, through friendly conversations and respectful service.

Our Team

2M Builders is a building company set up by old friends Andrew Maynard and Ben McArthur.

Both of us have had successful careers prior to ‘getting on the tools’ and bring a variety of skills and experience to your project. We have qualifications in carpentry, roofing, scaffolding and project management, as well as extensive general building, construction and contract management skills. For complex or intensive building projects, we team up with local licenced builders for all or part of your build. We are fully insured, excellent communicators, highly organised and have good networks within the construction industry.

We pride ourselves on being honest, reliable, and easy to work with. We look forward to working with you soon!

Our Story

The story of 2M Builders began over 20 years ago, with Andrew and Ben growing up together on Tasmania’s Northwest Coast. Our friendship was forged over a shared love for paddling and the Tassie bush. We each travelled our own paths, working in a range of professions, but we were always devoted to being in Tasmania.

Eventually, we were both faced with a challenge shared by many: how to have meaningful work, raise a young family, and do the things we love - all at the same time. We wanted to live in Hobart and have the time and space to enjoy Tasmania. We wanted the freedom to manage our own time, work with our hands, and be in the outdoors. We were both already working in the building industry and had observed a way we could bring something special: by providing great customer service, communicating openly with our clients, and taking on niche projects that make a big difference to people’s daily lives.

And then it dawned on us: why not work together to build something that helps us live these values? We realised we were in a unique position to not only create a business that could help us live the lives we want, but to help other folks do the same, through the houses we build for them and the service we provide. So we worked with each other the same we work with our clients: with respect, honesty, and transparency, about what we wanted to achieve and how.
